Dehradun: One person was killed as rains accompanied by high velocity winds lashed most parts of Uttarakhand, leading to swelling of streams and triggering landslides.
Overnight heavy rains in Purola in Uttarkashi district (66.0 mm ) and capital city of Dehradun (51.7 mm) resulted in overflowing of streams and canals.
28-year-old Ishtiak, who was riding a motorcycle, was washed away when he tried to cross a canal at Race Course locality here. Police fished out his body and handed it over to his family, police said.
Most parts of Uttarakhand have received light to moderate rains since yesterday that have triggered landslides blocking traffic at various places. The rains also disrupted Chardham Yatra in Chamoli and Rudraprayag districts.
